Self Portrait Box

Picture

17" x 11" x 20"
Cherry, Hard Maple.

Intended to be a kind of psychological self portrait, the curved front cover rotates up to allow access to the five drawers inside. This artful storage container matches the Portsmouth Dressing Mirror.

A cross between a house plant and a butler the Walnut Coat Tree grows from a carved walnut base and supports any number or winter coats on its curved inset leaves.

Painters Perch

Picture
2009
32" x 19" x 53"
Mahogany, Douglas Fir.

Designed for a standing painter this stool provides half a seat and an arm rest. Keeping one foot on the floor while resting your weight on the painters perch allows for comfort and mobility. You are never really standing or sitting but perched at just the right height for a standard easel.

Six Legged Stool

Picture

23" x 18" x 28"
Curly Maple, Morado, Walnut, and Upholstery.

Ergonomically correct and surprisingly comfortable the gently sloped seat on this stool provides a unique place to sit and rest. Promoting awareness of body position, the six legged stool asks you to add your to legs to its four for complete stability.

Little Nick's Big Red Chair

36" x 36" x 36"
Paduk, Stainless Steel, Leather.

Four uniquely curved legs carved from bright red Paduk restrained by a sold rod of Stainless Steel support a rolled cushion with custom distressed leather. You will never see this one anywhere again!

Essence of a Table Saw

Picture
2011
24" x 24" x 48"
Red Oak, Steel, Machine Parts.

An antique hand drill and old table saw blade are mounted to a turned center on three bent laminated legs.  Using the handle to turn the blade this "Table Saw" provides a satisfying squeak and rattle.

Figure In Wood

Picture
2013
24" x 36" x 22"
Jelutong, Walnut.

The "Figured Wood" or "Body Table" project was an experiment in digital carving. The  table is my own play on traditional slab work and figurative hand carving.  I modified a 3D scan of a model and oriented the figure so she appeared to be just emerging from the flat surface, like a bather floating on a calm lake.
